* Salinas Man John Mitchell Arrested Near Lincoln Elementary After BofA Robbed On Main Street

A 35-year-old man was arrested outside an elementary school in Salinas on Friday afternoon for allegedly robbing a nearby Bank of America, according to the Police Department.Officers responded to reports of a robbery at the Bank of America at 405 Main St. around 3:30 p.m., police said.Witnesses provided a description of the suspect, John Mitchell, and directed the officers to Lincoln Street where Mitchell was believed to have fled, according to police.An officer then saw Mitchell running toward the back of Lincoln Elementary School, and he was taken into custody without incident at the back of the school, police said.Mitchell was booked into Monterey County jail on suspicion of robbery.According to personnel at the Bank of America, Mitchell had entered the bank and handed a teller a note stating he had a gun and demanding money. The teller then gave Mitchell an undisclosed amount of cash.
