A 15-year-old boy was killed in Cupertino on Saturday afternoon when he was climbing on the rear of a stopped truck that drove away, and the California Highway Patrol is still searching for the driver today. The boy was walking on the sidewalk of Wolfe Road at about 12:30 p.m. when he climbed onto the tow bar that connected a tractor-trailer while the truck was stopped at a red light, according to the CHP. The driver was waiting to take the on-ramp to southbound Interstate Highway 280. When the light turned green, the truck accelerated and the boy either jumped or fell from the tow bar. The tires of the rear trailer killed him, according to the CHP. The driver did not stop and might not even know the boy had climbed onto the tow bar. Witnesses could not describe the tractor but said the dual gravel trailers were white. The CHP is asking any truck drivers who were in the area and might have been involved, or any businesses that own or operate similar equipment or anyone with information about the crash to call the CHP at (408) 467-5354 ext. 271 or (707) 551-4100.
