The U.S. Coast Guard is partnering with local law enforcement agencies this weekend to enforce drunken boating laws in the Delta. People who are caught operating a boat under the influence of alcohol can be subject to the state’s driving under the influence penalties as well as federal penalties and can be fined or arrested, according to the Coast Guard.  The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Marine Services Unit, one of the agencies participating in “Operation Dry Water,” will be conducting BUI
saturation patrols in various locating in the Delta today and Sunday, the sheriff’s office announced.  In 2008, drunken boaters caused 49 percent of all boating fatalities in the state, according to the California Department of Boating and Waterways.
