A man is recovering from surgery today after a bullet went in one side of his neck and out the other in his Castro Valley home Thursday morning, an Alameda County sheriff’s sergeant said. The man, who is in his 20s, is the main witness to the shooting
and since he has been sedated sheriff’s deputies have not been able to figure out why two men broke into his house and shot him, Sgt. J.D. Nelson said. The suspects barged into his home in the 1700 block of Grove Way in the unincorporated city at about 12:30 a.m., got into a fight with the man and shot him, Nelson said. The victim ran out the back door and asked a neighbor for help, and when officers arrived the suspects were gone and nothing appeared to have been stolen, he said. He was taken to Eden Valley Medical Center. “We don’t know if this is some sort of retaliation or robbery or if this is random,” he said. The victim has a roommate, but Nelson said he was not home.
