A man suspected of pretending he is a police officer when he meets women through Craigslist, robbing them and making sexual advances was arrested in Fremont Wednesday night, according to San Jose police. Timothy Johnston, 47, was arrested after police followed an investigation and found his vehicle parked outside a home in Fremont. A woman had called San Jose police around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday from the Days Inn Motel at 2460 Fontaine Road because a man she was meeting for a massage had used a police badge and detained and robbed her, according to the police department. The man told her she was under arrest, and to wait while a female officer responded to assist, according to police. He also reportedly made sexually suggestive comments to her. The woman followed him to the parking lot to provide police with a description because she suspected he wasn’t a real officer, and the suspect fled, police said. Police made a connection to a Milpitas sexual assault and robbery that happened in the same manner in May. On May 30, possibly the same man knocked on a woman’s door at the Beverly Heritage Hotel after a Craigslist arrangement and said he was a police officer, police said. The man showed the woman an ID card and badge, sexually assaulted and robbed her. During a follow-up investigation, police found a badge and ID card that they believe Johnston used. A photo of Johnston is available through the San Jose Police Department. Anyone who might have information or might have been a victim should call Sgt.
