Two alleged Santa Rosa gang members were arrested on suspicion of robbery and gang enhancements after a shoplifting incident at Coddingtown Mall Tuesday afternoon. Sgt. Craig Schwartz said the suspects, ages 16 and 19, concealed items from the JC Penney’s store under their clothing and left without paying for them around noon. The 16-year-old suspect punched at a JC Penney’s loss prevention officer who was trying to detain him and swung a knife at another loss prevention officer, cutting his clothing and causing a superficial wound, Schwartz said. He was detained by Coddingtown Mall security officers a short distance away after he dropped the knife, Schwartz said. The 19-year-old suspect, Fernando Osorio, assaulted mall security officers after he ran from the scene, Schwartz said. The security officers took him into custody. Santa Rosa police booked the juvenile into the Juvenile Justice Center for suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and gang enhancements. Police booked Osorio into the Sonoma County jail for alleged robbery and gang enhancements, Schwartz said. Police said both suspects are known street gang participants.
