The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office today identified 16-year-old Shawn Miller as the boy who was struck and killed by a SantaClara Valley Transportation Authority light rail vehicle in San Jose on Thursday. Miller was a resident of Campbell. He was stopped at a crossing at Leigh Avenue and Southwest Expressway around 3:45 p.m. and had let a northbound light rail pass, but then walked around the lowered crossing arm, according to the Police Department. Miller, with his Razor-like scooter, walked directly into the path of an approaching light rail vehicle traveling south, police said. Fire personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. According to the Police Department, 16 traffic collisions have caused 17 deaths this year. Seven of them were pedestrians. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call
Investigator Kevin Cassidy with the Police Department at (408) 277-4654.
