* Oscar Campos Pleaded Guilty To Murder Of Gilroy Cabinet Shop Owner Luviano Garcia And Molestation Of A 13-Year-Old

A 21-year-old Monterey County man has pleaded guilty to molesting a young boy and murdering the boy’s relative, according to a statement released Thursday by District Attorney Dean Flippo.Oscar Campos pleaded guilty to the Jan. 22, 2008, murder of Luviano Garcia, 47, who he killed with a high-powered rifle at his Las Lomas home, according to the district attorney’s office. Detectives with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office reported contacting Campos during an investigation, and said he admitted to the homicide. Campos ultimately led officers to Garcia’s body that he had buried in a rural area of southern Santa Cruz County, and was arrested Jan. 23, 2008.While in custody, Campos revealed to investigators that he had become acquainted with a 13-year-old relative of Garcia’s while employed at his father’s cabinet shop in Gilroy, and that he had molested the boy on several occasions during the summer of 2007. Campos will be sentenced for murder and lewd acts upon a child by Judge Terrance Duncan on July 10 and could face a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in prison, according to the district attorney’s office.
