Jun 2 SANTA ROSA: UPDATE NEIGHBOR NOTICED ‘SUSPICIOUS’ PERSON HOURS BEFORE INTRUDER MOLESTED GIRL

Santa Rosa police said a witness in the Aston Avenue neighborhood saw a suspicious male in the area several hours before an intruder touched a 12-year-old girl in her bed early this morning.Sgt. Lisa Banayat said police do not have a composite sketch of the suspect but are reviewing files of registered sex offenders and examining evidence from the scene.The male suspect cut the window screen of the bedroom of a residence in the 800 block of Aston Avenue where the girl was sleeping around 1:20 a.m., police said.The suspect entered the bedroom through the unlocked and open window, touched the girl and attempted to molest her, police said. The suspect fled when the girl cried for help.The suspect was described as a male with dark skin, 40 years old, 5 feet 5 inches with a “chunky” build, police said. He was wearing a white shirt and dark pants.The witnesses interviewed during a canvass of the neighborhood gave a similar description of the suspicious male seen hours before the burglary and assault, Banayat said. Police are advising residents to inform them of any suspicious people. Anyone with information about the Aston Avenue incident is asked to call the sexual assault team at (707) 543-3595.

Police this morning are searching for a man they say broke into a home in Santa Rosa and attacked a 12-year-old girl in her sleep. Officers responded to a home in the 800 block of Aston Avenue at about 1:35 a.m., where a man had reportedly cut through a window screen and entered a girl’s bedroom and molested her, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department. The suspect fled through the window when the girl woke up and alerted family members, and he was last seen running into the South Park neighborhood.The suspect is described as a man with dark skin around 40 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall with a “chunky” build and wearing dark clothing, according to police.Anyone with information regarding this or a similar attack is asked to contact the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Domestic Violence/ Sexual Assault Team at (707) 543-3595.
