* Newark Women Carjacked At Foodmax Suspect Viliami Naa, 18, Arrested

A Union City teen was arrested early this morning after he allegedly carjacked a 54-year-old woman outside a Newark supermarket and led police on a brief chase, Newark police said.Viliami Tp Naa, 18, was arrested after crashing the woman’s Toyota minivan while allegedly fleeing from officers in the southern part of the city, police said.The woman called police just after midnight to report that she had been carjacked in the parking lot of a FoodMaxx store at 39996 Cedar Blvd.She told police that after she left the store, a man came up to her from behind, grabbed her around the throat and demanded her vehicle. He allegedly brandished a handgun, which police said was later revealed to be a toy gun. The woman was able to break free and the man drove off in the minivan.Responding officers saw the vehicle leaving the area with its lights turned off and attempted to stop it, but the driver accelerated, leading police on a four-minute chase.The chase ended when the driver lost control of the minivan on Cherry Street near Mowry Avenue and struck a tree, four signposts and a fire hydrant before rolling multiple times and coming to rest, police said.Naa climbed out of the minivan and was immediately arrested, police said. He was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and then booked on charges of carjacking, attempted kidnapping and evading police.The victim was treated for minor injuries as a precaution, police said.
