A 45-year-old Hayward woman has been arrested in connection with a string of bank robberies in southern Alameda County over the last two months,Fremont police spokesman Detective Bill Veteran said today. Daphne Elizabeth Cole was arrested without incident at about 2 p.m. Thursday as she left a doctor’s appointment in Hayward. Cole is scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Hayward at 2 p.m. on Monday. Veteran said investigators credit Hayward police patrol Officer Jessica Perryman for developing the information that led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Cole. He said that while Perryman was at an unrelated traffic stop, she saw Cole drive by, copied her license plate and through follow-up with Hayward detectives was able to identify Cole as the suspect. According to Veteran, Cole is believed to have committed seven bank robberies since April 1: three in Fremont, two in Hayward and one each in Union City and Newark. Veteran said Cole admitted to the robberies and cited personal “tough times” as the motive. He said police aren’t releasing a photograph of Cole because they still have to conduct a number of photo line-ups in the case.
