A 9-year-old girl died today after being struck in a crosswalk by a suspected drunken driver on a motorcycle Wednesday night, Novato police said this afternoon.Melodie Osheroff of Novato died at Children’s Hospital in Oakland this morning, Novato police Lt. John McCarthy said. Police were informed of her death at 6:30 a.m.Osheroff and her father Aaron Osheroff, 41, of Novato, were struck by the motorcycle in a crosswalk at San Marin Drive and San Carlos Way around 8:45 p.m. Aaron Osheroff remains in critical condition at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, McCarthy said. Police said Edward J. Schaefer, 49, of Novato was speeding and failed to stop at a stop sign. He was arrested at Marin General Hospital today for vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, mayhem, and enhancement alleging infliction of great bodily injury during a felony, McCarthy said.Schaefer suffered moderate injuries and is under guard at Marin General Hospital, McCarthy said.
