A 46-year-old man was arrested this morning on suspicion of stabbing his estranged common-law wife to death in front of her Hayward workplace, a police sergeant said.Officers responded to the Bay Valley Medical Group at 27206 Calaroga Ave. at about 8:15 a.m. after receiving calls from employees who
witnessed the stabbing, Sgt. Steve Brown said. Arriving officers found the victim, Rose Marie Goulart, 46, of Castro Valley, lying on the ground with a screwdriver lodged in her torso, Brown said. Goulart was taken to a local hospital where she died. Brown said several employees identified 46-year-old Luis Albert Hernandez, of Castro Valley, as the suspect. Hernandez was Goulart’s estranged common-law husband and they have a 15-year-old daughter and
17-year-old son, Brown said. Preliminary reports indicate they had been experiencing relationship troubles over the last couple months and that Hernandez was waiting for Goulart to arrive at work today, Brown said. “We brought in numerous grief counselors to assist,” Brown said. “It was a pretty horrific scene for all those who witnessed it.” Hernandez was arrested at the scene on charges of murder and is expected to be arraigned Monday, according to Brown.
Brown said Goulart had worked at the Bay Valley Medical Group for more than 20 years as an administrative processor of HMO referrals and authorizations.
