Two juvenile suspects are in custody after a shooting Monday night in Oakland left a 13-year-old boy dead, police said today. Police were dispatched to the 1800 block of 55th Avenue in East Oakland shortly before 10 p.m. Officers found the youth nearby in the 5500 block of Holway Street suffering from a gunshot wound, according to police spokesman Jeff Thomason. The victim is an Oakland resident, according to Thomason. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Homicide investigators arrested two juvenile suspects, Thomason said. One reportedly admitted to his involvement in the shooting. The Alameda County coroner’s bureau is confirming the name of the 13-year-old victim, a deputy said this morning.
