A 25-year-old Gilroy man was arrested for the alleged carjacking of a man on Thursday afternoon, according to Gilroy police. Mark Sanchez was arrested after the carjacking, which occurred at about 3:45 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Filbro Drive and Princevalle Street, according to police. A 29-year-old man told investigators that he gave a ride to a woman he did not know in his 2003 maroon Mitsubishi Gallant, and she told him specifically where to park near the intersection of Filbro Drive and Princevalle Street, police said. As the victim was parking his vehicle, at least two suspects attacked him, took the vehicle and drove off, according to police. The victim received minor injuries from the incident. The woman was not attacked and police are investigating whether she was working with the suspects, police Sgt. Jim Gillio said Friday. After further investigation, Gilroy police officers located a possible suspect, later identified as Sanchez, in the 7400 block of Miller Avenue. As officers approached, Sanchez fled through a home and jumped fences until he made it to Filice Drive, where he spotted officers and ran. He was apprehended soon after without incident, police said. Sanchez was booked into Santa Clara County jail for carjacking, and investigators are continuing to search for the additional suspects, but no description of them was immediately available Friday. The stolen vehicle has also not been recovered, according to police.
