Update-May 13th 2009

Benjamin Packer is scheduled to be arraigned in Martinez this afternoon on charges that he killed his father and attempted to kill his mother during an attack inside their home Friday night. Benjamin Packer also faces two enhancements for allegedly using a knife to stab his parents and a third enhancement for causing great bodily injury to his mother, according to court records. Packer remains in custody on more than $2 million bail.  Brentwood police Sgt. Mark Misquez said today that Packer’s parents had been talking to him inside their home in the 1200 block of Ironwood Drive when “he brutally attacked both his father and his mother with a knife.”  A violent struggle ensued, but Packer’s mother was finally able to escape. She locked herself and her 8-year-old daughter in a bedroom and called 911, Misquez said.  When officers arrived, they found Packer sitting in the driveway of his home, police said.  Inside the home, officers found Packer’s father, 42-year-old Dennis Packer, suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.  Packer’s mother sustained a significant cut to her forearm arm and was also taken to a local hospital, where she was treated and released. The 8-year-old girl was unharmed in the attack, Misquez said. According to Misquez, Packer had a history of drug abuse and
police had been called to the house at least twice to respond to family disputes involving Packer. A memorial fund has been set up for the Packer family at the Bank of The West in Brentwood. Checks can be made out to the Dennis Patrick Packer Memorial Fund and either dropped off or mailed to the bank at 4540 Balfour Road, Brentwood, CA 94513.

  • Ben started using meth and we all stopped hanging out with him we told him it was us or the drug, it consumed him but that is no excuse . He had the most nice family ever and he took them for granted and ruined those kids and there poor mothers lives, this is no excuse… he used to be one of my best friends but I say let him rot that sick $%^&.

  • What Benjamin did is tragic, his father is my cousin and he will be greatly missed but who said it is up to any one to judge Ben? Benjamin is still my family and always will be and I will always love him. What he did is sad and it hurts everyone in the family and anyone who knew the family personally. But let God do the judging now in the end his judgement is all that matters. We love you Ben and Pat and Chris and the whole family may god be with you always.

  • this is my familey and it is a tragadey w will miss my cousines and i will be there for them no matter what

  • my sister used to occassionally hang around with him and his friends. i asked her what he was like and she said she got a weird creepy vibe from him so she avoided hanging around them. plus the drug use.

this is a tragic story. to hav your child turn against you i couldnt imagine that being the mother of 2 children. my prayers are with the packer family that they can heal from this.

  • I knew Ben when I was little. I never would have guessed this would ever happen. I can’t stop thinking about it. His parents were so nice. So was he… it is just very sad and upsetting.

  • This family tragedy is very sad. I was Pat’s aunt and he was a great kid. His parent’s were awesome. He had a great bringing up. I remember when Pat and Chris got married and had Benjamin. They were so excited and cared very much for their son. They have always had alot of family support. I will miss Pat very much. I hope Benjamin gets the help he needs in understanding what he did to his family and the fear he instilled in this community. God Bless the family.

  • I’ve known the Packer family for years and Ben since he was 12 years old. He and my son were best friends and our families would do all kinds of fun family outtings together. Dennis “Pat” was a great man. He lived to spend time with his family and spent hours with them on the race tracks. Anyone who would question whether Ben’s parents were good people or if they were/are raising their children right, needs to step back and look in the mirror. Ben chose to experiment with drugs and unfortunately he wasn’t able to overcome the strong influences that exist in that lifestyle. I know that Pat and Chris tried everything they could to get him away from that scene and I’m betting that is what was happening that night when this all took place. I guess the point I’m trying to get across here is please don’t be too quick to judge. God bless the Packer family.

  • I dated Ben Packer two summers ago.
him and his father would always argue but i didnt think it would lead up to this.whoever said there bailing him out is crazy.Ben did do drugs when we dated but aside from that he had a great family.they all mean so much to me still and i will never forget dennis packer.I live around the corner from them and its still hard to walk around my block knowing what happened.

  • WOW HOW PEOPLE COULD BE SO QUICK TO JUDGE. WHAT KIND OF UP BRINGING DID BEN HAVE TO MAKE HIM SNAP OUT LIKE THAT. WE DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. ALL THIS TALK ABOUT HIS DRUG ABUSE WHAT ABOUT THE PARENTS. WE DON’T KNOW ALL THE DETAILS BUT I DON’T THINK HE MENT TO KILL ANYONE. IT IS JUST A TRAGIC THINK THAT HAPPENED. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH THE PACKER FAMILY.

  • #$@^ that %$#@ my kids were asleep a couple doors down from this house as this happened so f$%$ respect. He not only murdered his own father but tried to kill his mother too, what was he gonna do to the 8 year old, im sure he didnt care at that point cause he was already gonna go down for all this. This is scarey this neighborhood is quite and people are very nice and watch out for one another. Im sorry that this had to happen!

  • You still respect him? The @#$& is wrong with you. Who could kill their own father. That is just sick.

  • I USED TO WORK WITH BEN AND HE WAS A VERY SWEET AND KIND YOUNG MAN. I WILL PRAY FOR HIM WHAT A SAD THING TO HAPPEN.
