A police investigation required the lockdown today of Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek, Lt. Tim Barrett said. At about 10:25 a.m., police went to the 1400 block of Creekside Drive on reports of a man acting strangely, police said. Arriving officers learned the man may have been in a nearby apartment, possibly had access to firearms and may have been suicidal, according to police. The Walnut Creek police SWAT and Bomb teams responded to the area,
and with the help of a robot, determined the apartment was empty. Las Lomas High School, located at 1460 South Main St., was placed on lockdown around noon at the end of the school’s lunch period, a woman answering the phone at the school said. Muirwood Elementary School at 2050 Vanderslice Ave. was also put on lockdown but both campuses reopened at about 2:30 p.m., Barrett said. “We took every precaution for public safety,” he said. Police are continuing to investigate the whereabouts of the man who prompted the police investigation.
