San Jose police are continuing to seek the public’s help in finding a 49-year-old San Jose man who went missing April 30 after text-messaging his girlfriend that he was going stargazing on Mt. Hamilton.Police Sgt. Eric Quan said today officers are searching areas Muni Bart Perzov frequented. Two helicopter searches of Mt. Hamilton have come up empty, he said. Perzov’s girlfriend, Teresa Hanson, said his text message was the last contact she has had with him.Quan said Perzov’s family is assisting police in the investigation and that Perzov’s friends in southern California have also been contacted. “At this point we have no indication that he was suicidal or that foul play was involved,” Quan said. “Until we find some evidence we are going to investigate it as if he’s missing.”It is possible, Quan said, that he could have gone somewhere to be alone.Hanson said she has been searching through Persov’s computer and his personal records, and that his financial records from the past three years have disappeared. She believes Perzov was having financial problems and may be suicidal. “I think he’s hurting,” Hanson said. “I hope it’s not too late.”
Hanson said she was worried when she realized that an unopened bottle of Maker’s Mark whiskey and one tumbler were missing from the couple’s home. She said Perzov had researched Santa Cruz County parks on his computer the day of his disappearance and on the previous day, Hanson said. Quan said police have not searched parks in Santa Cruz, but that agencies in that county have been notified of Perzov’s disappearance.Hanson said Perzov carried a gun in the trunk of his blue 1998 Audi A4, with license plate 3VVN796. She said the Audi has a fist-size dent on the rear of the driver’s side.Quan said police searched Mineta San Jose International Airport for the car but didn’t find it. Locating Perzov’s car is key to finding him, Quan said.”It will give us an area to intensify our search,” Quan said.Perzov was last seen at a Shell gas station at the corner of Meridian and Hamilton avenues around 3 p.m. on April 30. His disappearance was reported the next day.Perzov is about 6 feet and 1 inch tall and weighs about 200 pounds with brown eyes and salt-and-pepper hair.Anyone with information is asked to call the San Jose Police Department at (408) 277-8900 or the missing person’s unit at (408) 277-4786, ext. 21.
