A man charged with vehicular manslaughter in connection with a crash that killed his friend earlier this month pleaded not guilty in San Mateo County Superior Court this afternoon.Bruce Walker, 36, has remained in custody without bail since his release from a local hospital following the April 11 crash in Burlingame that killed 36-year-old David James White, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
Walker’s attorney requested Walker be released on his own recognizance today, but the court denied the request and scheduled a separate hearing for the attorney’s request to have bail set May 12, Wagstaffe said.Walker was allegedly speeding south on El Camino Real in a silver Infinity M45 when he crossed Howard Avenue and lost control of the car shortly before 10 p.m., Burlingame police reported.
The car slid sideways into a eucalyptus tree on the passenger side and killed Walker’s passenger White.Walker was trapped and had to be extricated from the wreck. He was then sent to the hospital with serious injuries.He faces 10 years in state prison if convicted.
