* Vacaville Arrest David Harper, 22 And Brandon Jackson, 21 For Using Fake Checks At 10 Stores

Two San Leandro men were arrested Thursday for trying to pass off fake travelers checks in Vacaville, but not before they purchased more than $1,000 worth of merchandise using phony pay methods at more than 10 other locations, according to police. David Harper, 22, and Brandon Jackson, 21, were detained at around 3:20 p.m. by officers responding to the Factory Stores at Nut Tree on a report of a customer attempting to use fraudulent travelers checks, according to the Vacaville Police Department. Officers located Harper and Jackson as they were about to leave the Nut Tree premises in their vehicle.Investigating officers reported finding items in their vehicle from more than 10 stores at the Nut Tree retail facility, as well as a series of counterfeit checks totaling more than $3,000, and a dozen fake gift cards. The stolen merchandise worth more than $1,000 was returned to the appropriate merchants, according to police. Harper and Jackson were arrested and booked into Solano County Jail on 10 counts of burglary, possession of stolen property, conspiracy, violation of probation and possession of stolen gift cards and false checks. Vacaville police reminded merchants to be wary of such scams and to report any fraudulent behavior to the department at (707) 449-5200.
