Vallejo police arrested a 37-year-old man who was holding his 12-year-old nephew at knifepoint in a parked sports utility vehicle on Sutter Street this morning.Jose Garcia-Sosa, of Vallejo, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment and was booked into the Solano County jail, Lt. Abel Tenorio said.Police were called to 1818 Sutter St. about a disturbance around
5:55 a.m., Tenorio said. Garcia-Sosa reportedly was involved in an argument with a family member inside a parked blue SUV, Tenorio said.En route to the disturbance, police were informed Garcia-Sosa had brandished a knife and was holding his 12-year-old nephew hostage inside the vehicle, Tenorio said.Officers arrived and began negotiations with Garcia-Sosa who was still holding the boy at knifepoint, Tenorio said. Police wanted him to surrender peacefully but they became increasingly concerned for the boy’s safety and Garcia-Sosa’s state of mind because Garcia-Sosa appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, Tenorio said.Officers acted on an opportunity to grab the knife from Garcia-Sosa and a struggle ensued, Tenorio said. Some of the officers shielded the boy from the suspect and removed him from danger and other officers gained control of Garcia-Sosa and took him into custody, Tenorio said. The boy was released unharmed to his family after a precautionary exam at a hospital, Tenorio said.
