SWAT teams in Vallejo arrested a North Carolina fugitive Sunday evening along with a female jailer who allegedly helped him escape, Vallejo police said today.Jeffrey Miles was one of six suspects arrested in connection with a double homicide in Swain County, N.C. He was in county jail awaiting trial when he allegedly befriended Officer Anita Key Vestal, Vallejo police said.He escaped from the jail March 21 after Vestal allegedly gave him keys that got him out of the holding pod and through a locked fence surrounding the facility, police said.The Swain County Sheriff’s Office contacted Vallejo police earlier this month and said Miles had possible connections to Vallejo, Vallejo police Lt. Abel Tenorio said.An alert went out to officers in the area to be on the lookout for Miles and Vestal.He was spotted shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Porter Street. SWAT teams from Vallejo and Benicia arrested him after brief foot chase, Tenorio said.Vestal was arrested without incident in a motel in the 100 block of Lincoln Road East, police said.They were both booked into Solano County jail and are awaiting extradition, Tenorio said.
