A 57-year-old El Sobrante man who was attacked in his home April 5 died today from his injuries, Contra Costa County officials said Sheriff’s deputies received a call at about 9:15 a.m. from someone reporting an assault in the 2400 block of May Road, sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said. When deputies arrived, they found Bruce King bleeding and unconscious inside his house, Lee said. He was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek in critical condition. On April 8, deputies arrested 45-year-old Raymond Gardner, also an El Sobrante resident, on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, robbery and theft, Lee said. The attempted murder charge was amended to murder today after King died, according to Lee. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.
