Apr 16,09 ALAMEDA CO.:UPDATE: TODDLER FOUND SAFE, FATHER ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED ABDUCTION

A 22-month-old girl was found safe at a house in unincorporated Hayward this afternoon after her father allegedly threatened her mom with a knife and abducted the girl late last night, a sheriff’s sergeant said.A statewide Amber Alert was issued for the girl at 4 a.m. Law enforcement developed information that 26-year-old Luis Meza Valdiva had taken his daughter Yosseline Carolina Meza to a friend’s house on Westfield Avenue, and sheriff’s deputies surrounded the perimeter, Sgt. J.D. Nelson said.An unsuspecting Valdiva stepped outside around 1 p.m. and was arrested “probably before he even knew what as going on,” Nelson said.Meza was inside the house, alone and unharmed. The incident started Wednesday night when Valdiva met his ex-girlfriend, Meza’s mother, at a Burger King in San Leandro, Nelson said. The three drove away together in a white, Toyota Camry and sometime along the way he got mad, threatened the ex-girlfriend with a knife and told her she would never see her daughter again, Nelson said.He said the mother convinced Valdiva to stop at a gas station in Turlock so she could use the bathroom. He reportedly allowed her to do so, as long as she left her purse and the baby in the car.At that point she told people in the gas station the situation and he drove away. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office was notified about the incident around 1 a.m. and sheriff’s deputies led the investigation because the two are both residents of San Leandro, Nelson said.Meza has been reunited with her mother.
