A former teacher employed by a Christian prep school in Sunnyvale was arraigned in Santa Clara County Superior Court today on charges stemming from a sexual relationship she allegedly had with a teenage student over a period of several years.Abigail Anne Holloway, 33, faces seven counts of lewd or lascivious acts on a child age 14 or 15, four counts of oral copulation with a minor, and four counts of sexual penetration of a person younger than 18, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.The charges outline inappropriate sexual relations Holloway allegedly had with a female student between 2002,when the girl was 14, and 2005.Authorities arrested Holloway March 1 in Arapahoe County, Colo., where she was teaching at a Catholic school in Englewood, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, which investigated the case. She turned herself in to detectives in Sunnyvale on Monday, Capt. Doug Moretto said. The event was prearranged with Holloway’s legal counsel.According to information from Sunnyvale detectives, Holloway left King’s Academy in Sunnyvale and worked in several other Santa Clara County schools between 2003 and 2005 before moving to Colorado. Sunnyvale detectives began investigating the matter in December 2008.If convicted as charged, Holloway would face a maximum of 12 years and four months in prison, according to district attorney spokeswoman Amy Cornell.Holloway is scheduled to enter a plea May 12 at 2 p.m. at the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice. Superior Court Judge Jerome Nadler set her bail at $150,000, noting Holloway’s decision to travel from Colorado and turn herself in.
