A man was found dead near a creek in the Sunol Regional Wilderness in unincorporated Alameda County Saturday afternoon, according to the East Bay Regional Park District police. The man’s body was found by a hiker at about 4 p.m. near the Alameda Creek, just downstream from the Little Yosemite gorge in the park. Park district police, fire and ranger units responded and found the body laying near the creek’s shoreline. There was no obvious signs of trauma or foul play at the scene, and the cause of death is pending results of an autopsy by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau. The area where the body was found is a popular hiking destination within the park, according to park district police. A tentative identification of the man has been made, but is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
