A driver who struck two San Rafael police cars and a police motorcycle died when his 1997 GMC Astro van crashed into a power pole on Summit Road this morning, San Rafael police said.Police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said the chase began around 11:15 a.m. after a San Rafael police officer to pull over the van in the area of Point San Pedro Road and Beach Road after seeing it driven recklessly.The driver refused to yield and a chase began. During the chase, the driver struck two patrol cars and a police motorcycle, Roherbacher said. The motorcycle officer jumped into the brush and avoided serious injury, but the motorcycle was totaled, Rohrbacher said. The pursuit ended when the van crashed into a power pole in the area of Point San Pedro Road and Summit Avenue around 11:30 a.m., Rohrbacher said.The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. One officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
