Two women have been charged with financial elder abuse for allegedly taking out a fraudulent mortgage against the home of their elderly employer, Millbrae police said today.Marie Bettencourt and Mary “Elaine” Soriano have been charged with financial elder abuse, grand theft, forgery and other theft-related charges in connection with crimes they allegedly committed against 82-year-old Millbrae resident Otto Graf, Cmdr. Mark Farber said.Graf has owned an independent insurance business in Millbrae for the past 49 years. Bettencourt had been working for Graf for 23 years and Soriano for 17 years.The two women allegedly took out a $300,000 mortgage against Graf’s home without his knowledge.According to Farber, the two women have been charged in a similar case in South San Francisco in 2005 in which they also allegedly obtained a fraudulent mortgage.Bettencourt was arrested last week and remains in custody, but police are still looking for Soriano. A $1 million warrant has been issued for her arrest.
