*Oakland Officer John Hege The Fourth Officer Shot Has Died

Oakland Police Department Officer John Hege, 41, who was shot Saturday along with three police sergeants has died, the Alameda County coroner’s bureau confirmed this afternoon. His time of death was not immediately available.Two separate but related shootings Saturday afternoon resulted in the deaths of a traffic officer, Sgt. Mark Dunakin, 40, and two SWAT team members, Sgt. Ervin Romans, 43, and Sgt. Daniel Sakai, 35. Hege had been listed in grave condition at Highland Hospital. A fifth officer, who has not been identified, was treated for a gunshot wound and released from the hospital Saturday.

  • My son and I are just so sad for the these officers and the families they had to leave behind. My teenage son, who is joining the Police Explorers Program this year was especially angered when he read the article and saw the Newscast upon it unfolding. We are so very sorry for these valiant and brave officer’s families. Our hearts and our prayers go out to you right now in Jesus Christ. May the Lord bring you peace, love and his Holy Spirit to help hold you up at this unspeakable time of grief in your lives.
