*Gilroy Resident Alejandro Cortez Arrested In Connection With Rape Of Morgan Hill Girl

A 21-year-old Gilroy man was arrested Wednesday after Morgan Hill police received a report that a 14-year-old girl had been raped by him about two years ago.Alejandro Cortez was arrested at his home in Gilroy after police received the report of the rape, which would have occurred when the victim was 12 years old and Cortez was 19 years old, Morgan Hill police announced today.Cortez tried to flee his home when officers arrived at the front door, but he was stopped while climbing out of the window and taken into custody, according to police.During the investigation, police discovered that Cortez was also the driver of a vehicle in a hit-and-run reported on Jan. 25, 2008. He was also on active probation for assault with a deadly weapon.Cortez was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on charges of rape, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, lewd act with a minor, lewd act on a child, contacting a minor with intent to commit certain offenses, hit-and-run, and probation violation.Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact Morgan Hill police Detective Kevin Beilmann at (408) 779-2101.
