*San Jose High School P.E. Teacher Accused Of Molesting 17-Year-Old Student

A 24-year-old Mt. Pleasant High School P.E. teacher has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 17-year-old female student, police said today.Police received a call Jan. 18 that child molestation occurred involving physical education teacher Rita Brum.An investigation then uncovered the alleged inappropriate sexual  relationship that took place over several months between Brum and a 17-year-old female student, police said.Brum allegedly had close, outside of school relationships with several students and may have coached team sports unrelated to the high school, police spokesman Jermaine Thomas said.School administrators could not immediately be reached this afternoon. Thomas said he doesn’t know if Brum has been subjected to disciplinary action from the school.Brum was arrested on suspicion of child molestation and booked into Santa Clara County jail on Feb. 26 before she was released on bail, police said. Brum has been charged with one count of sexual penetration of a person under the age of 18, Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Amy Cornell said. She is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Police have not determined if there are additional victims in the case and ask that anyone with information call Detective Tricia Bowers at (408) 277-4102.
