An East Palo Alto police captain said today the department is continuing to search for witnesses and clues to last month’s fatal shooting following an argument at a child’s birthday party. Police Capt. Carl Estelle said investigators are still following up on leads. “It’s amazing,” he said. “For this to be a birthday party, we’re not getting a lot of people coming forward and volunteering information.”On Feb. 7, officers responded to a report of gunfire around 11 p.m. and found East Palo Alto resident Eduardo Bustos Martinez in the driver’s seat of a white van stopped on westbound University Avenue. Medical personnel pronounced Martinez dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. Fellow front seat passenger Omar Camarena-Luna also sustained gunshot wounds in his lower back, police said. The two men were apparently involved in an argument at a child’s birthday party at the senior center on Bell Street, police said.”It’s a good chance the same group of people will end up at another party,” Estelle said. “You would think someone would say, ‘We all could have been shot. Enough of this!'”
