*San Jose Fugitive Wanted For Attempted Murder In England Arrested

A man wanted for the attempted murder of his wife and her boyfriend in England 12 years ago was arrested outside a San Jose home  Monday, a U.S. Marshals Service spokesman said today.Jaswinder Sigh Rana, 56, was arrested outside a house in the 3100 block of Sierra Road, Deputy U.S. Marshal Johnny Sanford said.Rana is accused of attacking his ex-wife Kirpal Rana and her boyfriend Amar Sandhu in March 1996.Jaswinder Rana allegedly took a knife with a 10-inch blade to his ex’s house in Kent, England, and attacked her and her boyfriend in an angry confrontation.Kirpal Rana and Sandhu suffered head trauma and injuries to their upper bodies, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. The attack left Sandhu wheelchair bound with limited use of his right hand.After allegedly fleeing the country, Jaswinder Rana headed to the U.S. by way of France and Canada, according to authorities.Rana was identified and located in San Jose by British authorities and investigators with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service.Jaswinder Rana was arrested Monday when he stepped out of the house, Sanford said.Details of Jaswinder Rana’s presence in San Jose have not been released, Sanford said.Jaswinder Rana went before a U.S. Magistrate judge Tuesday and has not fought extradition back to England,Sanford said.
