Jan 1, 2009 SF: POLICE MAKE AT LEAST 36 ARRESTS DURING NEW YEAR’S EVE FESTIVITIES

At least 36 people were arrested in San Francisco Wednesday night and this morning as a result of New Year’s Eve festivities in the city, according to police Sgt. Wilfred Williams.Police made 30 arrests for being drunk in public in the areas of Broadway, Market Street and Embarcadero, Williams said.Five arrests were made for a variety of misdemeanor offenses, according to Williams, who said police also made one arrest for a felony warrant.

Dec 30, 2008 SJ: MAN ARRESTED FOR FATALLY SHOOTING EX-WIFE MONDAY

A fight between a man and his ex-wife Monday night preceded a shooting that left the woman dead and her ex-husband in jail on suspicion of homicide, San Jose police said today.Kristine Tilbury Ramos, 33, and her ex-husband fought on the phone Monday night, police Officer Enrique Garcia said.Ramos’ ex-husband, Daniel Lee Tilbury, 33, now lives in Tukwila, Wash., according to Garcia.After fighting on the phone, Tilbury arrived at Ramos’ South San Jose house in the 7200 block of Rosencrans Way, Garcia said.Ramos, two other adults and four children were in the house when Tilbury arrived, said Garcia. Ramos’ children were amongst those inside the home. Tilbury allegedly walked into the house and shot Ramos multiple times before fleeing in a vehicle. Police were called to the home around 8:45 p.m. and discovered Ramos, who died at the scene. Witnesses were able to help identify Tilbury as the suspect in the shooting, Garcia said. About a half hour later, officers in downtown San Jose spotted Tilbury in a car and stopped and arrested him in the area of Coleman Avenue and West Taylor Street, Garcia said.Tilbury was booked into Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of homicide.

Dec 30, 2008:EAST PALO ALTO POLICE CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE MONDAY SHOOTING

East Palo Alto police today are continuing an investigation into a Monday night shooting that left a man in stable but critical condition.The shooting was reported at about 10:10 p.m. in the 2400 block of Fordham Street. Arriving officers found the victim lying in the roadway and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed today in stable but critical condition.The victim was apparently standing in the street smoking a cigarette when the suspect approached him on foot and shot him, police Detective David Carson said. Witnesses on the street corner were able to see the shooter running from the scene, and police believe the shooter got a ride from a waiting car, Carson said.The suspect was described as wearing a black hooded jacket and a mask. Carson said the victim can not be interviewed because of his condition, leaving investigators without a better description of the suspect or a motive in the shooting. Investigators have not determined if the shooting was gang-related.

Dec 28, 2008 VALLEJO: MAN SHOT BY OFFICER AFTER CHASE TRANSPORTED TO HOSPITAL

A reckless driver was transported to a hospital after being shot by a police officer this weekend following a chase, according to the Vallejo Police Department.At about 3:15 p.m. Saturday, officers attempted to stop the reckless driver in south Vallejo. The driver proceeded to westbound Interstate Highway 80 at Magazine Street and led the officers on a pursuit into Contra Costa County.The suspect proceeded to take the Crockett exit but was stopped by officers. The driver, who fled on foot, was caught. A struggle ensued. An officer used a Taser on the suspect who allegedly attempted to take the officer’s firearm, according to police. The suspect then allegedly reached for a .44 caliber revolver. The officer shot the suspect, who was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Dec 28, 2008 SF: 85 DRIVERS SUSPECTED OF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE ARRESTED

San Francisco law enforcement officials arrested 85 drivers suspected of driving under the influence in San Francisco since the city’s DUI crackdown began earlier this month, a spokeswoman said.The Avoid the 14 campaign launched Dec. 12 and lasts until New Year’s Day, spokeswoman Jan Ford said. Through midnight Friday, 85 allegedly impaired drivers were arrested and no fatal crashes involving alcohol have been reported, according to Ford.

Dec 27, 2008 SALINAS:TRANSIENT DIES AFTER PUSHED TO PAVEMENT

A transient who was washing car windows outside a gas station in Salinas died after being knocked down by a man buying gas, according to police.Santa Clara resident Orion Moore, 29, and a female companion stopped at the Pilot Truck Stop, located at 951 Work St., on Friday to buy gas. When Moore exited the car, a transient, who was about 60 years old, said he wanted to wash Moore’s windshield for money. Moore declined the offer, according to police. The transient loitered around the car and a while later began washing the window. The female passenger exited the car to tell the transient to leave. Moore allegedly ran out of the Pilot and knocked the transient to the ground. The man struck his head on the pavement and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died, according to police.Officers arrested Moore at the gas station.

Dec 27, 2008 SF: POLICE TO CONDUCT DUI CHECKPOINT NEAR SF STATE

San Francisco police will conduct a DUI checkpoint beginning around 8 p.m. today to 2 a.m. Sunday on 19th Avenue near San Francisco State University, authorities said. The checkpoint is part of a statewide effort to crack down on drivers under the influence and reduce the number of alcohol-related deaths on the road, according to police.Last year was the first year in California since 1998 that saw a drop in fatal crashes involving alcohol, police said.

Dec 27, 2008 REDWOOD CITY: POLICE CONDUCTING DUI CHECKPOINT

The Redwood City Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint Sunday night in an effort to keep impaired drivers off the road.The checkpoint will take place on Woodside Road just west of Massachusetts Avenue, police said. The Police Department’s DUI checkpoints are administered through a traffic safety grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
